Oficina Técnica Buigas – Types of fountains
Artistic Fountains
Our range of artistic fountains encompasses all our most original fountains due to their unique, artistic component, as at OTB we design them especially for each location. They are fountains that combine water forms with different artistic expressions, such as sculptures, mosaics or reliefs, for example.
Artistic Fountains Design
Artistic fountains are historically the most famous fountains. Their attractiveness comes from their artistic element, accentuated by the form this gives to the falling water, which attracts the attention of passers-by.
For the composition of this type of fountain, OTB uses different materials according to the design of the main artistic element. We make fountains out of stone, metal or ceramic material which results in different finishes, thus giving the water a great variety of textures as it falls. Bush hammered stone will result in a more turbulent waterfall than polished stone.

Historic Fountains
The layout of the installations has to be very carefully determined with this type of fountain, as it is conditioned by the shape and placement of the historic element.
Sculpture fountains
We design fountains the composition of which includes sculptures depending on the interaction of the sculpture with the water to achieve the desired visual effect. In line this principle, we find sculptures that have been designed so that the water flows over them as it falls; elements the water crashes into before falling; and simple surfaces of still water where the main point of interest is the artistic piece.
If, for example, the intention is to create an abstract, original space, we tend to play with the interaction of sculptures and nozzles as a whole as can be seen in our project for the Plaza de San Marcos. If the preference is for the water to simply accompany or enhance the artistic element, we recommend giving less importance to the shapes created with the water, making this a secondary element. One example of this design can be found at the top of this page.
