Design
From the beginning of the project, the idea was to create a walkable fountain that allows different options for children’s play, offering the possibility of maintaining a versatile space that can be used for other purposes by turning off the fountain. The design adapted to the available space, which is a rectangular square with green areas. Before installation, a meticulous design and layout of all the involved systems were carried out.
Execution
The project execution took place in three main phases to ensure an optimal result:
The first phase involved civil engineering. Underground facilities, such as pipes, drains, electrical conduits, and overflow and drainage pipes, were installed to accommodate the jet systems. Special attention was given to the strategic location of the technical room, where most of the systems are located, and to the water conduits from this room to the fountain.
The second phase focused on the installation of hydraulic and electrical elements, requiring close coordination with civil engineering. Pipes, pumps, nozzles, and other necessary components were installed, and individual LED lights were placed on each jet. Additionally, a centralized water treatment system connected to the fountain channel was implemented to ensure the quality of the water used in the fountain.
Finally, the fountain was connected and put into operation. Electrical connections of all equipment to the control panel located in the technical room were made using our Syncroshow® control software. This software allows programming and controlling the fountain’s operation according to different conditions, such as the time of day and weather conditions. Exhaustive tests were conducted to ensure that the fountain operated according to the established parameters, ensuring an optimal experience for everyone who enjoys it.
Sustainability
At OTB, sustainability is a fundamental aspect considered in all our projects. We prioritize the use of durable and high-quality materials, such as stainless steel and IP68 materials, to reduce the need for frequent replacements and, consequently, decrease resource consumption and environmental impact.
We also strive for maximum energy efficiency by using low-power LED lights and carefully adjusting the installation to operate with the least amount of necessary energy, without compromising performance. This results in lower energy consumption and a significant reduction in carbon emissions, leading to long-term savings and contributing to climate change mitigation.
Regarding water, we implement a treatment system that allows us to reuse it in a closed circuit, avoiding constant waste and reducing the demand for water, promoting responsible and sustainable use of this vital resource.
Operating Modes
As for the functions and curiosities of the fountain, different operating modes can be programmed according to the time of day and the influx of the public. The static mode allows the fountain to operate with slight variations, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The water play mode offers programmed sequences that surprise and entertain viewers. The light and water play mode is specially programmed to operate at night, creating a stunning visual spectacle. Finally, the eco mode is activated during the fountain’s lower attendance hours, implying energy savings to maximize efficiency.
In summary, the Francesc Maciá square fountain is much more than a simple addition to the urban landscape; it is an engineering and design work that provides fun, entertainment, and refreshing pleasure to those who visit it. Additionally, its focus on sustainability and energy efficiency demonstrates OTB’s commitment to environmental protection and the construction of a more sustainable future for all.
