- Artistic Fountain
The most striking part of this fountain is the monument to Salvador Dalí, a project by Oscar Tusquets Blanca.
“This fountain is not a Salvador Dalí piece, but a monument to him.” For this reason, it aims to allude to his work. Undertaking a monumentally sized and three-dimensional piece replicating of a Dalí painting is not an easy job, which sometimes is close to being kitsch. In this case we haven’t aimed to directly reproduce a certain piece of work, but simply a creative interpretation of the obsessions of one of Dali's masterpieces. His obsession with cypress trees, they are impossible. An obsession which gave rise to a multitude of paintings by the painter as well as a corporeal work: a cypress tree that rises up from a boat, next to the entrance to his house in Port Lligat. An impossible cypress tree, quite surreal, the same as the one that emerges from a white horse, or an unusual trumpet, or which flows from a fountain, or which comes out of a grand piano..., All imagined and painted by Salvador. A cypress tree that is sufficiently realist in order for one, from a distance, to be confused by its size. Is it a sculpture or a real cypress tree? A cypress tree that rises out of the water, water that flows over a pool of Cadaqués slate that surrounds it”.
